Advocate
practising at the Pietermaritzburg Bar since 1993. Married with two
sons. Formerly a civil court magistrate.
Currently visiting Ireland on a sabbatical, Brink is a jazz aficionado,
musician, recording studio and concert sound rig operator. Took Latin
instead of biology during high school, but was tutored extramurally
by his grandfather in microbiology, microtechnique and photomicrography
to an advanced level - all kinds of micro-organisms, blood smears,
and triple-stained sections of various tissues. |
Became interested in the HIV-AIDS controversy in 1996 upon discovering
that two of the most eminent scientists in contemporary biology - Walter
Gilbert, Nobel Prize 1980 and Kary Mullis, Nobel Prize 1993 - did not
subscribe to the orthodox model. Proceeded to investigate the scientific
underpinnings of the HIV-AIDS hypothesis in depth, found it wanting and
have in the process become, to quote Professor Jerry Coovadia, Chairman
of the 13th International AIDS Conference in Durban in July last year,
a well-known AIDS dissident. Has amassed a substantial library
of scientific papers, books and other materials on AIDS. Maintains an
active correspondence with AIDS-dissident scientists, journalists, and
activists worldwide.
Wrote an extensive critique of the AIDS drug AZT - recently published
as a book, Debating AZT: Mbeki and the AIDS drug controversy -
which moved South African President Thabo Mbeki to order an enquiry into
its safety on 28 October 1999. The book has been applauded by Dr Etienne
De Harven, Emeritus Professor of Pathology at the University of Toronto
as the most authoritative and decisive analysis
the best
most comprehensive review on AZT available. South Africas
leading investigative journalist, noseweek editor Martin Welz,
wrote the foreword.
Attended the second meeting of President Mbekis International AIDS
Advisory Panel as an accredited observer, and the 13th International AIDS
Conference in Durban. Has been interviewed on British and South African
television and radio on numerous occasions. Recently debated Professor
Coovadia in Pietermaritzburg, and has been guest speaker at conferences
convened by the Young Presidents Association, the Libertarians Society
and the Selbourne Supper Club.
Brink has just launched an historically important action against GlaxoSmithKline
for the widow and minor son of an attorney poisoned by AZT, with the collaboration
of an American defective drug specialist attorney practising in New York.
The case will involve an inquiry into the integrity of the companys
basic claims about the pharmacology of the drug and its alleged benefits.
Running two other cases in which the meaning and reliability of PCR and
antibody HIV test results will be put to judicial test.
